Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day-Oct. 15th

October 15th is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day in the United States. More than 25,000 children are stillborn in the United States every year leaving mothers, entire families and communities devastated. Estimates of the rate of occurrence of stillbirth make it at least as common as autism.
Stillbirth is not an intractable problem. Greater research would likely significantly reduce it’s incidence, but good research requires good data. H.R. 5979: Stillbirth Awareness and Research Act is under consideration by Congress. This proposed bill would standardize stillbirth investigation and diagnosis, thus providing more data for the needed research. Better research means fewer children born still.
On October 15th, remember the thousands of unfinished children lost and the families who remain to grieve them. Honor them by taking action. Let’s help pass H.R. 5979.

Positions: Families who experience pregnancy loss and infant death believe that their children should be entitled to recognition and remembrance.
To obtain a official day of remembrance for Canadian families who have experienced the loss of a child during pregnancy or shortly after birth.
To promote support, education, and awareness for grieving families who have lost children during pregnancy or shortly after birth.
To ensure that families who experience pregnancy and infant loss are not isolated in their grief.
In raising community awareness we can better support families who experience pregnancy and infant loss.

Description: The Canadian Foundation for October 15th, also known as the CFO is the official foundation of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day Canada. The CFO is leading the federal campaign to recognize October 15th as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day Canada.
The goal of the CFO is to obtain an official day of remembrance, October 15th of each year, to ensure that all Canadian families who experience the loss of a child during pregnancy or shortly after birth are given the opportunity to acknowledge their loss, seek support, and honor their child’s memory in an understanding and supportive atmosphere.
The CFO works to promote “World Wide Awareness and Remembrance”, enabling the larger community the knowledge and skills required to assist and meet the needs of families who experience pregnancy loss and infant death.
