Bedrest Service
Posted on May 5, 2008
I’m one of those people who always find out about something after I don’t need it anymore. Whether it be a book, a store, a product, etc. I don’t know why this is. Maybe I don’t look hard enough or I’m not patient enough. I’m guessing patience has a lot to do with it.
When I was searching for information about infertility it seemed difficult to find a book that captured all of the information I was dying to learn. Yet, once I had my twins I found the perfect book and even though I didn’t need it I bought it anyway. When I was nursing my twin daughter’s I complained that I needed a bigger pillow to nurse them, yet the only ones available in the stores were for nursing single babies. However, after I had successfully wean my girls, I saw an ad in Twins Magazine for a twin nursing pillow. I didn’t purchase the pillow although I have recommended it often to women pregnant with twins.
What ever the reason, I find a million things that could have been helpful during my pregnancy or shortly after K&A were born. One such service is a company called Better BedRest. I found an article in Preemie Magazine about this program that reaches out to women on bed rest. The second sentence of the article made me smile as it is so true…”Although some may think it is a vacation, it really isn’t.” A vacation is supposed to be fun. There is nothing fun about being on bed rest. Sure, you can read, watch TV, and worry sick about the health of your baby. Based on my personal experience, I’d rather not take that kind of vacation again!
Better BedRest created support groups in 1993. They offer phone calls to women on bed rest at home or in the hospital. Boy, I could have used a weekly phone call from someone who had ‘been there, done that’ while I was in the hospital for 5 weeks. They also provide small Emergency Grant Funds. They have a Purple Pajama Campaign to raise funds for their Emergency Grants. To help, make a $55 donation to Better BedRest and they’ll send you a pair of purple pajamas. According to Better BedRest, 1 in 5 women will be prescribed bed rest to alleviate a pregnancy complication.
If you or someone you know is on bed rest, give Better BedRest a visit to see how they can help you though this stressful time. A must services to keep in mind when you’re pregnant with twins, triples, or more. If you’ve been on bed rest and want to give back and help someone else in need, contact Better BedRest and become a volunteer.

Wow – what an amazing organization!! I’m going to put a link to them on my website!!
Thank you so much for your support for women on bedrest due to high risk pregnancy. The more people that are educatied about our mission of community awareness can make a difference in a woman and her families life during this time.
