Strange Happenings

Posted on March 21, 2008

On Monday I participated in a phone call with a business coach, Therese Skelly. We belong to a group called Shared Vision Network. As part of my membership, I was entitled to one free coaching session with Therese. Therese only knows me as the author of Tiny Toes so she was taken aback when she learned I am a CPA by trade…

Anyway, as Therese learned more about what I am doing (attempting to bring awareness about infertility and premature birth via my book) and what my passion is (getting insurance companies to cover fertility treatments), she said, “It sounds like ‘this’ happened to you for a reason.” She sensed a confidence when I talked about what was important to me so she didn’t understand why I tend to hesitate when I need to “contact” someone about scheduling a speaking opportunity, radio show, etc. It’s the introvert in me.

Then Tuesday, I’m at the mall with my daughters. We park next to a blue car and the only reason I know this is because my girls were shouting “Blue car, blue car” as we pulled into the parking spot. I didn’t study the blue car and we went inside. Upon returning to the car a business card was stuck in my driver side window. I sighed one of those irritated sighs, as I was expecting someone advertising their goods in what I consider an unwelcoming manner.

The card said, “Success is doing what you love to do.” That’s it. No name, phone number, or website address. Nothing!

I say to myself, “That is weird.” I look at the blue car next to us, no card. I swear it is the same blue car, but I cannot be 100% positive. I look at the car on our other side, no card. I look around in the parking lot and don’t see any other car with a card placed anywhere. Again, I say, probably out loud this time, “That is weird.” Or is it?

Sometimes we need reminders about why we are doing what we are doing. Some days I feel my efforts are in vain as I cannot always appreciate the little accomplishments. But then I remember the woman who told me my book helped her with her postpartum depression or the friend who said that she can now understand and relate better to her friends that are experiencing fertility issues.

My reminder to you is to do what you love because:

“Success is doing what you love to do.” Anonymous
