Walk of Hope

Posted on April 20, 2009

On Sunday I participated in the first annual Walk of Hope in Phoenix, Arizona. We met our goal for the number of registrants. At one point we were hoping for at least 100 walkers/registrants. By the end of Sunday we had almost 250 walkers/registrants. While 250 people may not seem like a lot, this was the largest turnout we have had for a RESOLVE event in Arizona. It was an interesting event too as we combined the non-resolved folks with those with children. The divisions in the group were obvious, but we all gathered together to provide a single voice for infertility.

I’m hoping the showing in 2010 will be at least twice as large as it was this year. In the Phoenix Metro area there are more than 140,000 women/couples struggling with infertility. Truly, there should have been thousands of us standing up for all means of family building, including the “decision” to live childfree. No matter how small the crowd, we took a small step toward progress.

If there was a walk in your area, what could the organizers do to encourage you to participate?

This sounds so wonderful! I would love to do one in Ohio. I organized the Family Building Conference, can you give me info on how to organize one of these? Thanks!
