Welcome back for another Twin Peas Pod episode!
In today’s episode, I interview Tina Nelson. Tina has held leadership positions with the Arizona affiliate of RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association for three years. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Tina through RESOLVE and I have the utmost respect for her. She is an amazing women who didn’t let the long journey with infertility dampen her soul. Tina’s journey from infertility to motherhood lasted almost seven years.
Tina explains that she knew her husband might have some male-factor infertility issues, due to a childhood illness, before they started trying to conceive. In her mid-30’s she didn’t expect to be a poor responder to the medications. Tina was a nurse, yet she admits that her first IVF was overwhelming. Thank you Tina for making the rest of us feel normal!
We talk in detail about her IVF cycles and the issues with her ovaries and her husband’s sperm that lead to their ultimate decision to utilize donor egg and donor sperm. Common with many couples during infertility, Tina and her husband struggled in their relationship and had differing ideas of how far they would go to have children. Although her husband tried to be supportive, she found an organization that supported her and other women struggling with infertility, RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association.
The Nelson’s had yet to find a birthmom match in their two year adoption pursuit and then two egg donors dropped out at the last minute. About this time, Tina, with the help of a counselor started to accept that she might not become a mom. She pursued personal growth opportunities and alternative therapies. Once she let go of a belief system that was holding her back, their adoption moved forward and she found a top physician that specializes in donor embryos.
Her advice: do what you need to do for yourself, find a great friend, and never give up.
