Today, I interview Jackie Curry from Arizona. Jackie and I met volunteering together through the March of Dimes. Currently, we are the 2008 Co-Chairs of the Family Team Committee for the March for Babies.
Jackie was told that she would never have children because of her medical issues, one of which included Endometriosis. She did become pregnant but her pregnancy was full of complications. The birth of her son was very traumatic, due to a condition called Vasa Previa.
He was born at 33 weeks gestation and spent 6 weeks in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Because of the Vasa Previa, Jackie had a hysterectomy immediately after the birth of her son. Now she is experiencing Secondary Infertility as she wants to add a child to her family; however she and her husband have yet to be on the same page with regard to adoption or other possible options.
Vasa Previa is a rare condition that occurs in about 1 in 3,000 pregnancies. Vasa Previa has a very high fetal mortality rate and can be dangerous for the mother too. Basically, a baby has exposed vessels that are not supported by the umbilical cord or placental tissue that are located between the cervical opening and the baby.
There is an International Vasa Previa Foundation (vasaprevia.org). Like many charitable organizations, they host a walk each year, which is called Sophie’s Walk. To learn more visit their website.
Endometriosis is a condition where the endometrial tissue is found outside of the uterine cavity. According to RESOLVE (www.resolve.org), the reason for infertility associated with endometriosis is generally due to blockages caused by scaring or adhesions.

I here from NaComLeavCom
I have unexplained infertility.I can’t imagine being faced with the decision to have a hysterectomy before I was ready. I almost lost the choice once after a curette complication - thankfully the OB got on top of the situation and today I have twins almost two, adopted son almost 15 and an angel in heaven.
My twins were one month early but had no complications -spent 19 days in hospital for feeding and weight gain. I heard so mnay good things about the March Of Dimes
I couldn’t get the podcast to work sorry.
My Little Drummer boys
