New Twist in Adoption – Obesity

Posted on January 29, 2009

This is an old post that has been sitting at the bottom of my blog posts because I didn’t know how to use the new features in WordPress, well I finally figured it out and even though this is now old news I thought it was still worth posting…

My friend Jimmy Moore sent me an email alerting me to a post on his blog about a couple in the UK who was denied the ability to adopt because the male partner is obese, Fat Discrimination.

One of my husband’s good friends just adopted their second baby. It makes me sad of this couple in the UK who have been denied the joy of a family.

What do you think? Should someone be denied because of their weight, race, religion, you name it?

Well, it’s horrible, but it makes sense to me.
My husband and I were recently denied an adoption interview because the 16-year-old birth mom didn’t think we ‘made enough money’. Although we might have been the best candidates…in her eyes, $$$ is what mattered in making good parents or not.
So, I guess if ppl want to discriminate on weight, they’re allowed to, same as discriminating against salary.
